During the second Palestinian intifada, the refugee camp in Jenin became the scene of a battle between armed Palestinian militants and the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Civilians, as well as soldiers and guerrillas, were killed, and a large area of the camp was demolished by the IDF. A Palestinian tried to salvage belongings from the rubble of his home.
