تُعرف بنغلادش على أنّها بلاد نهريّة، إذ أنّ أرضها تعجُّ بالأنهار التي يتداخل أحدها مع الآخر. كذلك تشتهر هذه الأنهار بخاصيّة مميّزة وهي أنّها تزخر بالجزر النهريّة التي تُعرف أيضاً باسم "تشار".
