تمّ ذبح طيور الغاق ذات مرة بما أنها تحدّ من أعداد غلال الصيد إلاّ أنّ أعدادها بدأت تتزايد منذ الثمانينيات مع عودة الليتوانيين إلى برزخ قورش منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية.
