The Festival of Abrivado, held on November 11 each year, sees more than 2000 gardians (cowboys) and 1000 horses take part in a bull-running event on the beach. Teams of gardians lead groups of bulls along a 6km route on the beach of Saintes Maries de la Mere. The most difficult part is to keep the bulls (4 bulls for each team) inside the route, while spectators along the beach try to distract the horses with flags and firecrackers.
