Catching snowflakes
A juvenile Japanese macaque sticking its tongue out during snowy weather, like a child trying to catch snowflakes. The snow monkey, as it is also called, is the world’s most northerly monkey, living in mountains where snowfall can reach 4 m in depth and night temperatures can plummet to 20 degrees below freezing. Even though they are warmly dressed in their winter fur, seeing these fellow primates endure such extremes is quite moving. Jigokudani.
