نجا الرقيب أول جايسون ويلش من القنبلة الموضوعة إلى جانب الطريق والتي نسفت سيارة هامفي العسكرية وقتلت ثلاثة جنود من زملائه ولكنه أُصيب في الدماغ. كان يخضع للعلاج ويعيش في منزل تقاسمه مع غيره من زملائه المصابين.
