أثناء ممارسة طقوس البدء التي تشير إلى الانتقال إلى مرحلة الرجولة، يتمّ ختان الفتيان في قبيلة كوسيون وتغطية أجسادهم بالطين الأبيض. إنهم يعيشون كمجموعة في كوخ بعيداً عن بلدتهم حيث يزورهم يومياً شيوخ القبيلة ويعطونهم دروساً حول المسؤوليات التي يضطلعون بها عند العبور إلى مرحلة الرجولة.
