Ripy
Ripy, a 20-year-old Vezo shrimp fisherman, photographed near his fishing grounds in Madagascar’s Bay of Assassins. His village, which lies in the locally managed Velondriake marine protected area, has planted thousands of mangroves in recent years, enabling residents to earn an income from carbon credits on international markets while at the same time protecting the environment. Velondriake means “to live with the sea” in the Vezo language.

50% of any profits from the sale of this image will be donated to marine conservation initiatives in Madagascar.
