According to their belief, monks are not to engage in agricultural labor. They can keep only a few possessions and eat only what is offered in their bowls. The monks leave the monasteries early in the morning. They walk single file, oldest first. The giving of alms is not thought of as charity. The giving and receiving of alms create a spiritual connection between them.
