Afghanistan, Kunduz, 2001
Kunduz was the last major stronghold of the Taliban following its withdrawal from Kabul. It had been under siege by the Northern Alliance, and an agreement was forged in which Taliban fighters would surrender peacefully in exchange for safe passage. However, as soon as Northern Alliance forces entered the city they were ambushed, and a fierce firefight erupted. A Taliban fighter who had just been shot was dying in the street.
