This picture was made as part of my wider project ‘Dreich’ that examines the underappreciated beauty of terrible weather. Dreich is an old Scottish word that I remember my grandmother using in Edinburgh during my childhood. It is still in use today and, to my ear, is one of those delightful words where the very sound of it conjures an image of its meaning. Dreich is persistent, cold, damp, dark and grey. But amidst that there is beauty.
