يضع المتظاهرون وروداً بيضاء وهي الرمز الكانتوني للموت ضمن إطار الاحتجاجات التي تندّد بالعنف الذي تستخدمه الشرطة. تصاعدت وتيرة العنف بين الشرطة والمتظاهرين منذ انطلاق حركة المظاهرات في يونيو فيما اتهم العديد من الناس الشرطة بإساءة استخدام صلاحياتها، الأمر الذي أدّى إلى الإفراط في استخدام القوة والوحشية العشوائية والاعتقالات التعسفية.
