تُعتبر الكهوف الجليدية السّاحرة في جبال الألب عُرضةً للزوال في عالمنا الذي يُعاني من ظاهرة الاحتباس الحراري. ولقد كان هذا العالم السُّفلي المذهل شاهداً على المناخ المحلي وأدهش الزوار على مدى قرون، ولكن بدأ الآن الجليد الساحر الجمال فيه بالذوبان شيئاً فشيئاً. إذ تتسرّب المياه إلى داخل كهوف جبال الألب المتجمّدة، مثل كهف إيسكوغل الواقع في أعالي جبال تنين جنوب سالزبورغ في النّمسا، وتتحوّل إلى أشكالٍ ساحرة مثل الكتلة الجليدية المتدلية الضخمة داموكلسي لتشكل قماعاً ثلجية مرتفعة من الأسفل.
