This small tree, growing to 10 m tall, is usually found along rivers or in secondary forests. It is found only on the island of Borneo, in Sarawak and Kalimantan. Each of its pendulous infructescences (fruit heads) bear many fruits, as seen in this specimen. The fruits are greenish-yellow, becoming red when ripe. Each fruit comprises three parts and splits to expose three large seeds. The leaves are used to wrap fish for roasting.
