POS LB 242 8

The local name refers to a spiked kitchen utensil used to hook and lift pieces of meat from a cooking pot, the same word was used by the Romans for the grappling iron used in warfare. If you ever accidentally step on one of these fruits barefoot, the resulting pain might well bring this association to mind! The species is sometimes called Devil’s claw, a name it shares with a related species used medicinally in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
