The National Ministry of Transportation and Communication held a competition for the design of four post offices in Rome. In 1933, Adalberto Libera was awarded the commission for this site on the Aventine close to the Pyramid of Caius Cestius. Together with architect Mario De Renzi, they designed a modern monument surrounded by a generous landscape
